CTC, the UK’s largest cycling charity*, inspires and helps people to cycle and keep cycling, whatever kind of cycling they do or would like to do. Over a century’s experience tells us that cycling is more than useful transport; it makes you feel good, gives you a sense of freedom and creates a better environment for everyone.

  • We provide expert, practical help and advice.
  • We support individuals and communities.
  • We protect cyclists’ interests.
  • We campaign to make cycling mainstream and to remove the things that stop people cycling.
  • We help people develop the confidence and skills to cycle.
  • We promote the benefits of cycling to individuals, to society and to the economy.

CTC has appointed Gordon Seabright as its new Chief Executive. Gordon has worked for a number of high profile charities and membership organisations. Previously, he was the Acting Director General of The Royal Horticultural Society and the Commercial Director of English Heritage, where he was also in charge of Stonehenge. He lives in Wiltshire, with his wife and two teenage daughters. Gordon Seabright said: "CTC has an enormously important role to play as the champion for cycling and cyclists, and I feel very honoured to be joining the team. Cycling is a big part of my life and something my family loves to do together. I'm looking forward to supporting the talented CTC team in doing all we can to champion more and safer cycling." He replaces Kevin Mayne, who will join ECF.

Timesimage_100.jpg CTC help The Times with 'Cities Fit for Cycling'

The Times newspaper launched Cities Fit for Cycling, a major campaign to improve cycle safety in the UK, after one of its reporters was seriously injured in a crash last year. CTC strongly supports the initiative and welcomes the eight-point manifesto at the heart of it, which was drawn up following briefings by CTC’s campaigns team. The Times’ demands include: action to make lorries safer; the redesign of dangerous junctions; the building of a ‘world-class’ cycle infrastructure; and making cycling part of the driving test. You can also pledge your support if you wish.
