CTC delivers a Ride Managers' Course in Reading to the Public Sector

CTC has developed a course for people looking to organise their own cycle rides in their sectors of work. This is a report of the course we delivered in Reading.

This course was delivered to people who work in the public sectors in Reading.

It was designed to give the participants the skills needed to organise and run group cycle rides in their given sector of work, ensuring that they have the capability to go out and lead their own rides safely, with confidence and knowledge.

The skills taught include:

Cycle Chilterns Brewery Ride - Tring Brewery

The Cycle Chilterns 'Brewery Rides' are a series of rides taking place throughout the winter months with added incentive. Each route will be a 15-20 mile road route with a stop-off during the ride or at the end to enjoy a pint of real ale from one of the many fantastic breweries in the area. The rides are open to everyone.

Free bike safety checks in the Chilterns this winter

Cycle Chilterns will be running a number of free bike safety check sessions at town markets and train stations across the Chilterns this winter.
Free bike safety checks from Dr Bike

To help keep your bike running smoothly and safely this winter we will be holding regular Dr Bike sessions at a variety of locations across the Chilterns. During each session a qualified mechanic from a local bike shop will perform a free, basic bike safety check while you wait.

Basic bike maintenance is important at any time of year, but particularly during winter when weather conditions, dirt and grit on the road can cause problems with brakes and gears much quicker than in the dry summer months.

Downhill legend Steve Peat thrills local children in Sheffield

Good fortune came to kids from Parkwood Springs when local downhill legend Steve Peat turned up to give them a few tips and ride with them around their local track.

The event was kept low key to make sure that the locals were the only ones who would  enjoy the day.

The 2km track has been years in the making and was officially opened a year ago. Jon Dallow, of Sheffield City Council Woodlands Team, has co-ordinated the six-year long project with the help of CTC Education Officer Dan Cook's vision, bringing prime singletrack trails to the city centre.

It hasn’t been at all easy, but I have had a lot of help from many people along the way."

Cyclists have been taking part in a special protest in the Southwark. They lay on the ground in what is known as a 'die-in' in response to the death of 14 cyclists in the capital this year. VoR's Brendan Cole spoke to Ria Weston, a spokesperson for the national cycling charity, CTC.
