English Core Cities – who’s got the strongest cycling appetite?

CTC and local campaign groups have published a league table ranking the support for cycling from English ‘Core Cities’, based on the number of councillors backing the Space for Cycling campaign outside London. Newcastle is top with an impressive 67%, while Liverpool and Sheffield still have quite a lot of catching up to do.

London's draft Cycle Safety Plan and Design Standards are huge step forward for UK, says CTC

Responding to Transport for London’s (TfL) consultations on its draft Cycle Safety Action Plan (CSAP2) and revised set of London Cycling Design Standards (LCDS), CTC has greeted both as significant improvements on any previous official UK cycle planning and safety guidelines.

Space for Cycling inspires cyclists and local councillors alike

The launch of the CTC-led national Space for Cycling campaign just before Easter has already inspired thousands of people to email their local councillors, urging them to make sure that anyone can cycle anywhere, and to seek the funding needed for it.

Councillors from a variety of political parties have responded to say that they’re happy to back the campaign’s goals, and more support is coming in all the time.

Mayor of London promises 33 cycle-friendlier junctions

Mayor Boris Johnson is spending £300m on redesigning 33 of the nastiest junctions in the capital. More than 150 cyclists and pedestrians, Transport for London says, have been killed or seriously injured at these locations, so this is good news.

Road Justice policing petition: signed and delivered

CTC’s Road Justice petition calling on the police to treat bad driving with the severity it deserves not only reached over 12,000 signatures, but has now also received a positive response from the Association of Chief Police Officers' national lead on cycling. Mark Milsom, from West Yorkshire police, has given his support in principle for CTC's calls for better-resourced roads policing, as has West Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commission (PCC), Mark Burns-Williamson.
