Essex 2012 Games Legacy

Twenty families and friends enjoyed a fabulous cycle ride on Saturday, organised by CTC Cycle Champions as part of the Essex 2012 Games Legacy programme.
The long line of cyclists on the Writtle cyclepath

We took the large group on a gentle traffic-free cycle ride from Chelmsford to the beautiful village of Writtle. We had glorious sunshine and great company and the Rose and Crown on Writtle Green made us, our bikes and the kids very welcome.

There is another ride this Saturday, leaving 11am from Colchester Leisure World and heading to Layer de la Haye, so invite your friends to join the fun and bring the kids.

Accessible Cycling Day for children with disabilities

Every year Swindon Borough Council create a day of sport aimed at children with a disability or learning difficulty. The day is called Access Day, and this year it was held at the County Ground Athletics Track on Wednesday 4 July. This was a great opportunity to showcase the CTC’s adaptive bikes.
Lauren testing out a wheelchair platform bike

We created a cycling circuit with cones and lined up around 20 specially adapted bikes for all sorts of abilities. Bikes included a Twister, which is a side by side tandem with two sets of handlebars and pedals, a hand bike for people with no lower body strength, a selection of tricycles and a pedal propelled quad bicycles. We also have a couple of recumbent tricycles, which allows users to sit back and steer from the side, and two platform bikes, which is suitable for wheelchairs to sit on.

My day at the Cycletta Wiltshire sportive

Last weekend I was invited to attend Cycletta - a ladies only sportive or challenge ride - and what a wonderful atmosphere!
Cycletta Wiltshire ladies' sportive

I arrived at the beautiful Lydiard Park on a slightly damp and cloudy day, but the weather didn't seem to dampen spirits. The main arena sported bright colourful banners, secure cycle parking facilities, extra toilets, information stalls and, of course, the famous "pamper zone".
