Dr Bike volunteer opportunities at RideLondon

Dr Bike volunteers mending bicycles
If you can fix a bike, you can be part of RideLondon

Dr Bike is a great opportunity for volunteers and bike owners to engage, learn more about their bikes and be given visual demonstrations of maintenance techniques and how to fix minor problems.

At last year’s Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle Festival, CTC organised three Dr Bike service stations at St Pauls, Green Park and Tower Hill, and managed to help over 2,000 people with their bikes. This was only achieved with the help of almost 100 hundred volunteers.

We had 2,000 bicycles serviced in 1 day, over 3 locations, by 80 volunteers. Volunteers spent on average 16 minutes per bike, that’s 25 bikes per Dr Bike mechanic over the course of the day. CTC's Dr Bike volunteers were absolutely phenomenal last year and I can't wait for this year."

Saturday 9 August

The 2014 Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle is set to be even bigger, and CTC have been asked back to deliver the Dr Bike service again. So, to match the high demand for the service at last year's FreeCycle event, CTC will be hosting Dr Bike services at Tower Hill, Green Park, St Pauls and additional Dr Bike service stations will be at Guildhall Yard and Leadenhall Market.

This year, our aim is to be able to help over 3,000 people have their bike checked before, during or after they have cycled around the cycle route on August 9. Free, optional Dr Bike training sessions will be offered to all volunteers

Sunday 10 August

Begins with 25,000 cyclists preparing to embark on the Prudential RideLondon Olympic legacy event, the Surrey-London 100. CTC is looking for volunteer bike mechanics to help ensure riders' equipment is safe and to avoid any unnecessary breakdowns. This service will take place at key locations around the 100 mile route and be the life-line for those who encounter mechanical issues. Volunteers will need to have a qualification in bicycle mechanics to join the team on Sunday.

World Record Attempt

This year Dr Bike will be submitting an attempt to break a World Record, giving you the chance to become a volunteer Dr Bike Mechanic World Record Breaker!!!

We aim to reach the target of helping over 3,000 people check their bikes are safe and in good working order. This is only achievable with your support, so if you would like to know more about the different ways you can volunteer, please register.
