CTC Tourist Competition
Throughout the recent history of CTC, it has been the custom for member groups to hold cycling competitions as one part of the many activities enjoyed by such groups. Providing member groups with the opportunity to enter their events into a massive national event structure and ride competitively against other member groups.
During its existence, the competition has been run by a small handful of volunteer coordinators. It is a highly prestigious role to take on and, like many voluntary jobs, suits someone who is able to beaver away in the background and produce the results on time and with great accuracy.
The essential tasks are twofold: (1) the compilation of events entered by member groups into the competition; (2) the recording, analysis and presentation of results.
The competition is made up of six different categories of cycle rides (a – f). Categories a -d are differentiated by ride length; category e is an assortment of events such as treasure hunts, map reading, hill climbing, free-wheeling etc; and category f are off-road rides. The events in the competition take place between March 1st and October 31st.
In the past the competition has been fiercely fought over, with members travelling the length and breadth of the country to enter events which might enable them to score that elusive extra point to make them the winner overall. Results really are that close!
