Getting Sponsored To Cycle For Team CTC

Many of us remember trekking around with a well-thumbed sponsorship form asking friends, family and neighbours to sponsor us, then having to approach our sponsors after the event to ask them to pay up but, as with many things, technology has stepped in to make things a lot easier!

If you're doing any kind of event, and would like to raise money for CTC's vital work, one of the easiest ways of doing this is by asking people to sponsor you. But instead of waving a grubby form in their face, nowadays you can just set up an online page with either JustGiving, or BT My-Donate.

They both work in pretty much the same way, and mean you can email a direct link to your page to all your contacts. You can also put the link on Facebook or Twitter – or even include it in your email signature.

It's surprisingly easy to set up online sponsorship: all you need to do is visit our JustGiving page and click on the ‘fundraise’ button on the top right hand side. You’ll then be guided through a set of step-by-step instructions. Remember to put photos on your page and use the rest of the space to explain what you’re doing and why.

If you’d prefer to use BT MyDonate, just visit our page.  Again, you’ll need to click on the link on the top right hand side of the page ('Start fundraising’), and you’ll be guided through the process of setting your page up. Again, remember to put photos on your page, and explain what you’re doing and why.

The really easy part with both these sites is that they collect the money for you, and then send it straight to CTC, so there’s no chasing up your sponsors after the event. They will also collect Gift Aid, so all you need to do is focus on your training and fundraising.

However, if you’d still like a paper sponsorship form, please download one from the bottom of the page. Alternatively, you could e-mail Lorraine and she'll send you an electronic copy.

Getting your hard-raised cash to CTC

If you're using a paper form and collecting the money from your sponsors, you’ll need to get the money back to CTC. There are two ways you can do this:

  • Bank Transfer:
Once you’ve collected all your money, you can simply do a direct bank transfer to CTC’s bank account.
Bank Name: Royal Bank of Scotland
Account Name: Cyclist’s Touring Club
Sort Code: 16-20-30
Account number is: 11277177

If you put your name as the transaction reference, and then email our accounts team to let them know the amount you’ve transferred, we can keep an eye out for the transaction.

If you’ve raised the money though sponsorship, you’ll need to send us the sponsorship form in the post so we can sort out Gift
Aid.
  • Send a cheque:
If you’d prefer to be traditional and send a cheque, you can still do that. You’ll need to make the cheque payable to
‘Cyclist’s Touring Club’, and send it to:
CTC,
Parklands,
Railton Road,
Guildford,
GU2 9JX.
You’ll also need to enclose any sponsorship forms, and send a covering note with your name, so we know who the money is from!
