Welcome to the July issue of ClubShorts, CTC’s e-newsletter for Member Groups. What a fantastic summer of cycling it’s turning out to be, with a lot of great weather for many of us, and L’Eroica Britannia, the Tour de France and RideLondon too! Plus of course, lots of great local events put on by CTC Member Groups. Don't forget you can register yours via your group's homepage on the CTC website. Fall forwards to AGM time

It’s that time of year again when we need to think about AGM dates. These are always published in the Oct/Nov issue of ‘Cycle’ magazine, so please let me have them by Tuesday 26 August at the latest (NB I am away 11-25 August). If you are not aware of the requirements of the Policy Handbook (page 12), every formal CTC Member Group must hold an AGM between 15 October and 15 November every year. The meetings must be accessible to the majority of members resident in the Group’s operational area, and accessible by public transport, except in exceptional circumstances. Provision must always be made for persons of limited mobility or the less able. Please let me know the time, date and location of your AGM as soon as it is known. Many thanks.

Your welcome

Since the earlest days of CTC, one of our core services has been to provide lists of establishments that welcome cyclists; in the past, many were identifiable by cast iron CTC winged wheel plaques, some of which can still be seen today. Wind forward 135 years and CTC’s Cyclists Welcome is the most up-to-date way of locating bike shops, cafés, B&Bs, hostels, hotels, and cycle hire operators, many of them recommended by CTC members. As CTC’s group on the ground, you’ll know your area’s best bike shops and favourite tea stops: recommend them for a free listing and we’ll send them a window sticker so the rest of the world knows how good they are too.

It's showtime!

This year’s Cycle Show from the 26-28 September at the NEC in Birmingham looks to be even bigger and better than ever, with a new hall of exhibitors and plenty of shiny steeds to feast your eyes on. Also new for 2014 is freestyle MTB dirt jumping, cyclocross racing, a 'devil takes the hindmost' four-man roller race, plus the return of the premium road bike track, as well as three other test tracks. As always, CTC members can obtain a discount on tickets by logging into our website and obtaining the CTC code. Why not make it a fun day out for all the family?

The excitement of the Tour de France in the UK may be over but that’s no reason not to visit some of the loveliest scenery the country has to offer. Several CTC Member Groups submitted their own ‘Yellow Jersey rides’ so that others may share in the glorious routes that they enjoy locally. If you’re looking for some rides further afield, why not check them out? Or even visit another group for a ride?

And if you are missing the lively atmosphere and outpouring of cycling fervour generated by Le Grand Départ, fear not: CTC has a number of volunteering opportunities at the forthcoming Prudential RideLondonevent on 9-10 August. From mechanics to marshals, there’s a wide range of roles to take on, so do please get in touch – you’ll receive free refreshments, a T-shirt and hat, plus some expenses.

Welcome aboard

This month we welcome two newly-formed CTC Member Groups:Redditch and Bromsgrove and Fleet Cycling. Both groups have beenformed by CTC members looking to expand informal groups in order to benefit from increased publicity for their events, access to CTC funding and a regular, monthly list of members to market their rides and activities to. Congratulations to both of them.

Photographic memories

Did you, like Stevenage and N. Hertfordshire CTC, organise a ride to see the recent Tour in England? If so, I’m sure you took lots of pictures. CTC would love to see them! We are running a photo competition, until the end of the Tour de France, with the taker of the best photo each week winning a free 12-month CTC membership. So get snappy!
