With the qualification used purely for those who can deliver CTC courses, Instructor Trainers undergo a significant amount of development and integrated working before providing becoming a CTC Instructor Trainer and tutoring CTC courses.
CTC is keenly aware of the significant difference between a good Leader or Instructor and a good Trainer. We were the first organisation in the Outdoors sector to have a teaching / assessing based qualification as part of our course portfolio and we continue to ensure CTC Instructor Trainers are of the highest quality with enormous breadth and depth to their knowledge and skill.
We invest hugely in our Trainers, both initially and on an ongoing basis to ensure Trainers:
- share and use cutting edge educational principles to make sure CTC courses are superb
- are able to fulfil the demanding role required of them
- are able to focus on the teaching and development of Leaders and Instructors through their own good practice and continuous professional development
- are supported with administration back up, teaching resources and excellent facilities with which to work
- are closely involved in the ongoing developments of products and services through CTC, with regular Instructor Trainer meet ups and development forums
The Instructor Trainer Award works through a mechanism of training and development during existing courses and attendance at a single weekend Instructor Trainer course. Leader and Instructor courses at each level are observed, assisted on, then delivered via a progressive 'on the job' personalised development process.
This means you may, for example become qualified to provide the Trail Leader Award whilst still training on the Technical Leader Award, resulting in you being paid as soon as you can provide at least one course level. Some Instructor Trainers are happy providing at just one level, others look to work at all levels, but with the vast range of courses that CTC provides, there is always something new to work towards delivering.
Instructor Trainers are the face of CTC, the front line, and that means we help you to generate the highest level of teaching, contributory ability and an ethos based on the principles of modern educational practice and trainee development.
Following initial training you will observe and assist at each course level before delivering it. This requires a flexible approach and much depends on your previous experience and the rate at which you feel comfortable as your role increases. Hence it may take a variable number of courses to ensure that you are fully competent at delivering each course.
Throughout your development as an Instructor Trainer, we work closely with you to ensure that your learning, application and progress is supported and you move at a pace appropriate to your knowledge, skill and confidence.
