Barry Jordan - CTC Swale
The Borough of Swale is located geographically midway through Kent and cycling was organised via the West Kent branch, which was always slightly unsatisfactory. Being at the time a national councillor, Barry was and is passionate about expanding cycling locally, and came to the conclusion that having a Swale branch would be a better way of promoting cycling.
The branch was formed in 2009 with Barry working hard to form a committee of officers with himself as secretary. Start-up funding was obtained from CTC and there was regular and efficient communication with members using a regular rides list, a very good website and e-mail. This had the effect of introducing casual riders to a hard core of regulars, the casual riders often returning after finding a friendly and welcoming club. Membership has risen steadily and a mixture of rides of different length and difficulty means that there is something for everybody.
The result is a strong section which will continue into the future, riding across the whole of Kent and venturing across the channel on occasions.
