Summer Bikeability Training in the Chilterns
The week long course is being offered by Cycle Chilterns, a project encouraging everyone to cycle more in the area. It is a great opportunity for your child to take part especially if they have missed out on Bikeability in the past.
Bikeability is cycling proficiency for the 21st century. During the course, the children start in the playground on Monday with basics such as riding in a straight line, signalling and looking behind. Refreshments will be provided on Monday courtesy of The Little Bike Company.
Cycling is a great life skill to have and developing these at a young age is invaluable to promoting safe cycling for the future."
Grace Lee, Bikeability Instructor
The next few days will be spent on the road learning about awareness, road rules and keeping safe. Skills taught include road positioning and communicating with other road users. The lessons also include how to pass vehicles safely and how to negotiate junctions.
As a special treat for this course, the final day is a led ride with parents so that your child can demonstrate to you what they have learnt.
We are running two courses as follows:
- Monday 5th - Friday 9th August at Tring School, Tring, Hertfordshire
- Monday 19th - Friday 23rd August, Woodside Primary School, Amersham, Buckinghamshire
The session times available are: 9.00am - 11am / 11.30am - 1.30pm / 2.00pm - 4.00pm
The course is free but spaces are limited. To book or for more information, contact Ian Taylor on 07801 560 496 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Please note: children should already be able to pedal a normal bike without stabilisers to take part in the training. Bikes should be in good order with two working brakes. The Little Bike Company in Berkhamsted will be running two free bike safety check sessions for children's bikes before the training weeks between 5pm and 7pm on Thursday 1st August and Friday 9th August. Please phone 01442 872123 to book your 15 minute slot.
Once they have completed the course why not join in on one of the Cycle Chilterns led rides taking place on Saturdays throughout the Summer?
