Hundreds from CTC take key role in Prudential RideLondon Weekend
The biggest mass-participation events over the two days will be the FreeCycle and the London-Surrey 100.
The former will see tens of thousands of people on Saturday set off on an eight mile stretch of motor traffic-free roads in the centre of London. The route takes in some of the capital's world-famous architecture, from the Houses of Parliament to St Paul's Cathedral and the Tower of London.
Sunday's London-Surrey 100 will celebrate the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, with a 100 mile route that begins from within the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford.
From there, riders head out of London into the Surrey countryside to experience the thrills of the nerve-testing route from the road race and time trial events that produced numerous medals for Team GB at the Games last summer.
The riders then head back into London, follow the embankment alongside the River Thames, through Trafalgar Square and down the Mall for the finish.
This weekend of cycling will be a spectacle and if the volunteers I have already met are anything to go by, the spirit of the event will be one to remember."

The national charity’s domestic women’s cycling team, Team CTC, are also in action on Saturday as part of the Prudential Ride London festivities.
They take part in the Grand Prix one-hour criterium event in the evening on a 1.3 mile circuit around St James’s Park. Starting out from the Mall, the competitors' route takes them past iconic scenery such as Buckingham Palace, Birdcage Walk and Horse Guards Parade.
Tamina Oliver, Hannah Payton, Astrid Wingler and Tracey Fletcher will represent the green team in the 100-strong group of riders that also includes Team GB Gold Medallists Dani King, Joanne Roswell and Laura Trott, with the race getting underway at 6:30 pm.
