Designed to give the next generation the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today’s roads, Bikeability is cycling proficiency for the 21st century. Train with Cycle Chilterns!

This Easter, Cycle Chilterns will be offering a number of free Bikeability sessions to children across the Chilterns. Following the same popular format of our sessions last summer, the training will take place over a week with two-hour sessions each day.

On Monday, the children will go through Bikeability Level 1, learning basic control and signalling movements in a safe environment away from cars and traffic. Children aged 10 years or over can then carry on to Bikeability Level 2.

The Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday sessions will be Bikeability Level 2 and give participants a real cycling experience. Children are taught how to deal with traffic on short journeys, road positioning and negotiating junctions as well as other real-world skills.

The final day is a chance to show off their new-found knowledge on a ride with parents (and also a good way for parents to brush up on their long-forgotten cycling proficiency training, and pick up some new hints and tips for riding in modern day traffic in their local area.)

Feedback received from children and parents participating in our 2013 training reported a noticeable confidence boost in their children while riding their bikes on the road, as well as a general increase in the amount of riding they were doing. Read the feedback and survey results case study.
