Mass Bike Ride at Labour Party Conference

Everyone's welcome at the Mass Bike Ride
Will you join hundreds of cyclists at the Mass Bike Ride outside the Labour Party Conference in Manchester on Monday 22 September at 6pm?

The national Space for Cycling campaign aims to create the conditions where anyone can cycle anywhere. Further to this, CTC is calling for a significant increase in funding for cycling from the government to make this happen.

Therefore, on Monday 22 September hundreds of cyclists will meet at All Saints Park in Manchester to show their support for the campaign and encourage MPs to take action.

CTC have invited over 200 Labour councillors, who have pledged their support for Space for Cycling and invited all MPs to join the ride.

The Mass Bike Ride has been organised by CTC and the Greater Manchester Cycling Campaign.

We’re glad to be supporting local campaign groups in calling for long-term, consistent funding for cycling across the country. There is already cross-party support to get Britain cycling, now it’s time to see firm commitments in all the parties’ manifestos to make that a reality."

Robbie Gillett
CTC Space for Cycling Campaigner

Spending on cycling outside of London currently averages £2 per person per head. Campaigners are calling for £10 per person rising progressively to £20, in order to meet German levels of cycling by 2025 and Dutch levels of cycling by 2050.

Earlier in the day on Monday, CTC President Jon Snow and British Cycling's Chris Boardman will be discussing the need to implement the recommendations of the Get Britain Cycling report at an event hosted by The Times.

Cyclists of all ages will gather from 6pm at All Saints Park before setting off at 6.30pm. The Mass Bike Ride will then follow a route around the Manchester Central conference centre, pausing for a photocall at 7.15pm with MPs and councillors who cannot make the ride but who want to show their support.

There will also be a Mass Bike Ride in Birmingham at the Conservative Party Conference the following week.
