Bob Kynaston 1940 - 2013
It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Bob Kynaston on 18 January 2013 after a short illness. Bob had been a CTC member for over 50 years, and the driving force behind the Tourist Competition for nearly 20 of those years.

Team CTC is launched - now meet the riders
CTC's sponsorship of an elite women's road racing team was announced at The London Bike Show on Saturday 19 January. The team members will enter a series of events in the UK and abroad, and will also act as ambassadors for women's cycling.

The first session of the All Party Cycling Group's inquiry into 'Get Britain Cycling' starts on Wednesday 23 Jan, and runs each week (with one exception) for the next seven weeks.

Minister backs talks to improve traffic justice
CTC has welcomed a commitment from Helen Grant MP, the Minister for Courts and Victims, to support discussions on how to improve the legal system's response to road traffic offences.

CTC helps Yorkshire win the Tour de France
The Grand Départ of the Tour de France 2014 will take place in Yorkshire. CTC backed 'Le Bid' in the summer and is delighted that part of the 101st race will be in Leeds where CTC is involved in community outreach work.

Surge in cycle use in 2011
Cycle use increased by 15% in 2011, according to new data from the Department for Transport. This contradicts earlier figures that had seemed to suggest static cycling levels last year. Growth was particularly strong among young and middle-aged men.

Autumn Statement cuts fuel duty and pumps money into road schemes
The Chancellor of the Exchequer's Autumn Statement isn't great news for cycling. New road schemes get almost £1bn, whereas there is only £42m extra for cycling over the next two financial years. At the same time fuel duty is being frozen, removing a key incentive to reduce car use.

Does the programme - War on Britain's Roads - present an unbalanced and sensationalist view of conditions on the road network? If you think so, complain to the BBC setting out the ways in which you feel it has misrepresented the situation.

£20m more for cycling
Transport minister Norman Baker MP has announced welcome additional funding for cycling in England - but this should just be a start, and CTC is calling for more funding to help Get Britain Cycling.
