Access to MoD land for cyclists - the big picture
Surrey and Hampshire cyclists are finding that the MoD (Ministry of Defence) are increasingly restricting access to their land for cyclists (and also making life much harder for horseriders and walkers). Is this happening in other parts of the country?

Hold hauliers to account over cyclist fatalities, says CTC
CTC has today written to urge the Transport Minister to adopt a dramatic new approach over cyclist fatalities that involve HGVs. It's cost-free and needs no legislation, but will put vulnerable road users at the front of the minds of those running the haulage industry.

CTC takes key role in 'Cycle Yorkshire' legacy launch
Pupils at a Wakefield school have met Yorkshire pro cycling brothers Dean and Russell Downing as part of the launch of 'Cycle Yorkshire'. The organisation has been set up to make the most of welcoming the Tour de France Grand Départ to the county next year.

Government planning to fail on cycling
Despite huge public and cross-party parliamentary support for substantially increased cycle use between now and 2050, the Government is expecting cycle use to FALL between 2015 and 2025, with little change between then and 2040.

Injuries to cyclists 12% higher than similar period last year
The numbers of cyclists injured in spring has risen to an estimated 4,990, some 12% higher than a similar estimate made last year. Taking the last 4 quarters against the previous 4 quarters, however, it is estimated that there has been no substantial change in cycle casualties.

CTC calls for swift progress as McLoughlin promises 'cycle-proofing' action
Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin has told cycling champion Chris Boardman that his department will do all it can to let councils introduce Dutch-style segregated cycle provision, while the Highways Agency has promised to review the cycling sections of its design guidance.

Tiptree turns out to celebrate its new pump track
After two years of planning, a new pump track at Tiptree in Essex was opened today by the Mayor and Mayoress of Colchester, Councillors Colin and Laura Sykes. Despite the wet weather there was a fantastic turn out from local youngsters eager to try out the track.

Norman Baker replaced as Cycling Minister
Norman Baker MP has been moved to the Home Office, where he'll take a more senior role. His Liberal Democrat replacement, Susan Kramer, was the MP for Richmond Park until the 2010 election and now sits in the House of Lords. The cycling part of his role, however, may go to Robert Goodwill MP.

Great day for a pump track ride
On a sunny weekend at the end of September, the inaugural Yorkshire Bicycle Show was held in Leeds. CTC was one of the main sponsors and staff and volunteers from West Yorkshire and National Office turned out with the ever popular Shoretrax Pump track. See just how much fun was had by all!
