Cycling in Colchester
Another great summer of cycling
Essex has again enjoyed the buzz and spin off of a wonderful Tour de France. It certainly feels like there are a lot more people out cycling. The new railway station bike racks were filled up within days and the numbers taking part in CTC’s activities has had a similar boost.
In Colchester we had amazing events at the Young Children’s Festival, amongst others. What better than getting small children riding unaided for the first time, in the space of a sunny afternoon.
And, of course, Colchester had it’s own Tour frenzy with the amazing racing around the town centre in May, hosted by Colchester Borough Council. CTC led two groups of riders in a procession from the edge of town and onto a High Street closed to traffic and full of shoppers cheering the mass ride on, under the race finish line.
The real success has been the large number of people being given the confidence to get back onto a bike and discovering the freedom and the fresh air through CTC.
Leafy cycling this autumn
Cycling continues into the autumn with gentle rides every week. You can join us:
Wednesdays 11am at Leisure World, Cowdray Avenue – gentle, mainly traffic-free rides to Wivenhoe, Abbey Fields, Hilly Fields and High Woods to name a few routes.
Tuesdays 10am from the Musket Club, Lordswood Road in Berechurch. Friendly short rides with trailers and lots of smiles.
All our rides are FREE. We have bikes and equipment for people to use without charge. So come and join us. You’re sure of a friendly welcome.
As well as the Champions rides there are numerous other rides [ link] to try, many inspired by CTC’s work.
