Cycle Training

CTC Instructor Training Organisation (ITO) 

CTC is recognised by the Department for Transport (DfT) as an ITO. CTC is a provider of high quality cycling instructor training this means that CTC is able to provide the following courses:

National Standard Instructor courses (NSI). This four day course trains you to become an accredited instructor able to teach the National Standards / Bikeability to all levels and ages.

National Standard Assistant Instructor courses (NSAI). This 2 day course enables you to assist fully accredited instructors to teach the National Standards / Bikeability to Level 2.

National Standard Instructor Training courses (NSIT). This enables experienced instructors to teach people to become instructors. Note that in order to do that you must be affiliated to an ITO. For more information please email.

Professional Development. CTC in Partnership with Royal Borough of Kingston has a full range of Professional Development (CPD) courses; the DfT advises all instructors to attend 3 hours of CPD per year. For a full list of CPD courses click here.

The DfT now requires all Bikeability accredited instructors to register with an ITO. If you are a Cycle Instructor you can find detailed information below about registering with CTC and about the changes will effect you. For Cycle Instructors

All instructors who receive i-Contact are automatically registered with CTC and will soon get an email with more details. If you'd like to register with CTC as your ITO email cycletraining@ctc.org.uk. More details are available on CTC's ITO plans and also includes links to information from DfT. CTC also offers instructors web listings and a tailor-made insurance scheme

 

Trainees

For Cycle Trainees

Bikeability is a three stage training programme, which takes you through the basic skills of balance and manoeuvring to bespoke training so you can confidently cycle on all the roads in your local area. You can search for an instructor via CTC's Map of Instructors and read advice for all trainees.

 
Cycle Training in Wales

For Training Professionals in Wales

CTC is now working towards increased capacity for National Standards/Bikeability throughout Wales. The Welsh Assembly Government has provided funding for an Development Officer to help local authorities increase the quality and availability of cycle training and to make bursaries available for instructor training

Gan fod Llywodraeth Cynulliad Cymru wedi darparu cyllid i gyflogi Swyddog Datblygu, mae CTC wrthi’n cynyddu’r gallu i ddarparu’r Safonau Cenedlaethol / Bikeability ledled Cymru. Bydd y swyddog yn helpu awdurdodau lleol i wella ansawdd hyfforddiant beicio, yn cynyddu’r hyfforddiant sydd ar gael ac yn trefnu i fwrsariaethau fod ar gael i hyfforddi hyfforddwyr.
 
Other Courses

Off-road and Maintenance Courses

Through its mountain bike skills Instructor programme CTC provides mountain bike skills training for cyclists of all ages and abilities and we also provide the training for the instructors! CTC also run Cycle Maintenance courses for all cyclists and instructors.
