Special Schools Skills Days

Children at Colchester Institute

Cycle Champions give children with learning difficulties the opportunity to enjoy cycling through a variety of fun activities hosted by Colchester Institute.

Cycling with NHS North East Essex

Cycle Champions has teamed up with NHS North East Essex to form a cycling group. A dozen people from the Oak House drop-in centre regularly enjoy the ride and banter together over a Quayside Cafe coffee.

Cycling Back to Health with Leisure World

Cyclists in Wivenhoe

We’re re-discovering the joy of cycling for an hour every Wednesday, meeting 11am at the Skatepark, Leisure World for a gentle traffic-free cycle ride to the University Quays where we stop for refreshments.

University Challenge

Lots of activities for students and staff at the University of Essex such as:

  • Secondhand bike sale thanks to the partnership of the University and Re~Cycle
  • Dr Bike surgery on Rayleigh Square, Fridays 9am–3pm (during term time)

Weekly Rides

There are two weekly Essex District Association rides going on in Colchester. Anyone can go and is sure of a friendly welcome.

The Pete Finch Thursday night ride

Tuesdays 7pm, at the War Memorial, High Street for a fast-paced spin around the countryside; more about fitness then sociability, lasting two hours.

Thursdays 7.30pm, outside Tenpin, Leisure World; social ride to a village pub, led by Pete Finch (Suffolk DA), lasting two hours.

Don’t forget your lights!

NEW: Sunday 17th January 10am, outside The Rovers Tye, Ipswich Road; 35-mile, easy paced ride led by Hugh Ward, with refreshment stop. It is hoped that with the coming together of Colchester Rovers and CTC, this will become a regular Sunday fixture.

Do You Like Getting Low-Down and Dirty?

A Google group has been setup to investigate sites and sources of funding to put together off-road mountain bike opportunities in Colchester.
