The Reading Bikeability course for schoolchildren is designed specifically to suit the Reading road environment. It is aimed at all year 5, 6 and 7 school pupils.

Key content

The Reading course takes into account the local road environment and is a fun and safe way of learning to cycle on Reading's roads.

The Course

The course is two whole school days long, which gives plenty of time to learn to ride in traffic. The course is based around riding to and around the training area - this hones the trainees' cycling skills and develops an affinity with traffic.

Instructors

Instructors are professionally trained and CRB checked, and they are all experienced in delivering high quality and safe tuition - and it's fun too! Participants will learn a lot and understand how cycling can be incorporated into their lives.

Participants

Participants learn:

  • General cycling skills
  • How to interact with traffic
  • How cycling can be incorporated into everyday life.

CTC offers the following courses:

1. Level 1 & 2 course: this is two whole days long and delivered largely on quieter roads.

2. Level 3 course (follow-up): this is one school day long and trains children who have gone through Levels 1 & 2 to ride on busier roads and through-routes. It is ideal for trainees who wish to commute on their bike.
