Ride To The Pies CTC Challenge Ride & Sportive

The second of CTC’s Challenge Ride and Sportive series for 2012 returned to the beautiful Dorset countryside with up to 200 riders covering the 57 and 79 mile routes. Jon Attwood braved his first sportive of the season to bring us this report.

A chilly and foggy start meant that for the first ten miles I was fully hydrated just from the dew that had collected on my clothing and beard. Winding down narrow country lanes, avoiding local tractors, the ride was often bumpy. So much so that at the bottom of one particularly rough descent, my water bottle jumped from its cage along with several of my fillings.

CTC Challenge Rides and Sportives

CTC continued its strong tradition of Challenge Rides throughout 2011 with a series of highly successful events around the country.
CTC Challenge Rides 2011

The 2011 CTC Challenge Ride and Sportive event series for 2011 included two established events as well as three new courses.

The series kicked off with a new event in February on the south coast near Dorchester, taking in the Jurassic Coast and delivering some stunning scenery, before moving slightly north to the home of CTC at Guildford in May. The Ron Kitching ride from the York Rally in June recieved a makeover and a slightly tweaked route, along with a few interesting riding options.

MAMILs of the World Unite!

Okay folks, come closer, I’ve got a confession to make. I’m a MAMIL. A delightful modern term used to describe those cyclists of a certain age who ride their super-duper carbon racing bikes, wearing tight clothing. ‘Middle-aged men in Lycra’ seems to be used, by some people, as a derogatory term - but why?
