In May 2009 the Department for Transport produced a website called 'Knockin' Noggins', aimed supposedly at promoting child cycling safety. After complaints from CTC members the game was swiftly withdrawn.
Knockin' Noggins was part of 'Tales of the Road' - a collection of child road safety messages embedded in games. This particular game encourages players to hit unhelmeted children with a mallet. Hitting the animated figures of children wearing helmets results in a loss of points, whereas hitting the children not wearing helmets leads to players gaining points.
Other games include games which appear to entirely blame children for their own injuries. The general tone of the website is to trivialise death and injury on the roads.
