Introduction

There have been too many cases where road users have been killed and injured but those responsible have received inadequate penalties.

CTC believes that stronger penalties for bad driving - in particular a greater willingness to remove the privilege of holding a driving licence - will help reduce the presence of bad drivers on the road and ensure that driving standards are improved.

During February the recently elected Police and Crime Commissioners are consulting on the priorities for their policing plans, to be written in March.

New research from DirectLine insurance seems to show that a minority of drivers don't 'notice' cyclists and walkers, despite being visible. Female drivers are worse than males and younger drivers are worse than everyone else: 31% fail to see cyclists, apparently.
