Get Britain Cycling

Introduction

The All Party Parliamentary Cycling Group is holding an inquiry into cycle use

The All Party Parliamentary Cycling Group (APPCG) has held an inquiry on the question, “how can we get Britain cycling?”  CTC has responded to the inquiry and gave oral evidence. The report was published in April 2013, with 18 recommendations to Government, including:

- 20 mph in towns and 40 mph on rural roads;

- funding of £10 per person, per year;

- local authorities to build high quality routes on existing roads

CTC also drafted a parliamentary Early Day Motion, "Get Britain Cycling" (EDM 679), which has been tabled by members of the APPCG. It was one of the top 10 most signed EDMs in the 2012-13 session of Parliament.

EDM 679 supported the APPCG's inquiry's aims, as well as the Times's "Cities fit for cycling" campaign.  It calls for cross-departmental action and resources to enable more people to cycle in greater safety. All these points were reflected in the report of the inquiry.

CTC has now joined other cycling organisations and the Times in asking that people sign up to a petition on the Number 10 website asking the Prime Minister to implement the findings of the inquiry.
