140 families join the BIG Colchester Tour Series ride

Colchester’s BIG ‘Tour Series’ cycle ride was a great opportunity to showcase the quiet cycle routes that Colchester has to offer. With such a great family turn-out, the event was a success, packing the High Street with cyclists all crossing the Tour Series finish line.

Jole Rider (pronounced Jolly Rider) is a charity that targets Africa to improve education and wellbeing in young people. This is mainly done by fixing up donated bikes and shipping them to Africa for kids to use for cycling to school. So to find out more, I met their lead mechanic for a bike ride.

A new EU-wide comparison of cyclists' safety shows that Britain is among the top countries for measuring cycling . Now we need to make much better use of this information to substantially boost cycle use and improve cyclists' safety.

Olympic Mountain Biking Display in Swindon

Saturday 11 August saw the Olympic Cross Country Mountain Bike race shown on the Big Screen in Swindon town centre. The BBC Live Site had displayed all 16 days of the Olympic Games, and when they asked me if I wanted to make “a thing” of mountain biking, of course I jumped at the chance.

More than 200 people attended the 2012 New Forest Cycling Rally. The event, for cyclists of all ages was at Avon Tyrell, the UK Youth Activity Centre. It is an ideal location in the New Forest, with superb facilities, easy access to delightful forest tracks, country parks and the seaside.

Just a few seconds into watching the Olympics and I can’t help rewinding to sports and games at school, but before I tell you whether my mind finds any pleasure in these reflections, I must state that I’m all for physical activity as part of school-life and wish it well.
