Here at CTC, we love supportive and friendly local bike shops. When things go wrong or when you need a bit of advice, local knowledgeable staff are invaluable. See which shops our CTC supporters recommend.

Following on from our request in the Friday 9th March edition of Cycleclips, it is our pleasure to present the local bike shops that our CTC supporters highly recommend.

Helen Royan from Leeds had this to say about her local bike shop - Dave Rayner Cycles:

"The owner Graham Stubbs is extremely helpful. You can ask the most 'stupid' question and get treated with the same respect as someone who knows what they are talking about. It is a family run business – all cyclists – who only want you to be happy as a cyclist. Help and advice is always available for anything from as small as buying some energy gels or bars to getting the most suitable bike for you. Nothing is too much trouble.

You might think this treatment is standard from bike shops but Graham and his family go above and beyond the realms of being a 'standard' shop. I cannot praise them highly enough. They certainly keep my interest in cycling all year round".

If you want to have your local bike shop represented please leave a comment below.

Did you know that CTC friendly shops offer our supporters a discount of up to 10 per cent?

The best bike shop in Exeter? Cyclerama - by a mile. Most important, the guy (Mike) is honest - he won't fob you off with something that isn't really what you want or costs more than you wanted to spend. And if it can be repaired he'll repair it. And He's friendly. And he's cheap - in fact, how does he stay in business? It's a small shop - but if he doesn't stock it then he can order most other stuff, or for something more out-of-the-ordinary he's quite happy for you to buy it on the web and then still fit/build it for you.

After trying many cycle shops I now go to S.H.Wood ( Cycles ) 84-88 St. Peters Ave Cleethorpes He stocks a wide range of bikes and accessories to suit most pockets. He is very knowlegeable and helpfull nothing to much trouble I have gone to him with my wants and problems now for the last 20 years. His advice has been sound and prices competative.

I would like to recommend Winklebury Cycles to cyclists in the Basingstoke area. There is a very good selection of new and second-hand bikes for sale. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful.

One day I was out for a ride with a work colleague who was trying out some new shoes (with cleats) that she had bought online. Unfortunately she hadn't tightened up the cleat bolts properly and lost several on the ride.

But we 'limped' to Winklebury Cycles, who came to the rescue and supplied some new bolts and tightened up the others - and didn't even charge her! They also provided a box of spares on a 'sale or return' basis when a group of us did the Three Peaks by bike a couple of years ago (Cycling from Ben Nevis to Snowdon via Scafell Pike)
