Paul Parkinson

Third Place CTC National Volunteer of the Year and Volunteer of the Year for South West England – Paul Parkinson.

In 2009, Paul Parkinson suggested that Cornwall would be an ideal site for the 2010 Birthday Rides and CTC warmly accepted. Paul organised the publicity and arranged the event’s centre at the Exeter University campus at Penryn. Accommodation and camping facilities were found and he obtained help from Falmouth Wheelers and CTC Cornwall to pre-test the rides.

350 attendees had to be registered at the start and Paul and his team made sure that CTC members from all over the country could find their way around.  The extensive programme included talks, entertainment and films for each evening and Paul also organised a raffle raising over £1,000 for the local charity Shelter Box.

Thanks to Paul’s drive and determination, the CTC Birthday celebration at Pendenis Castle was a huge triumph.  The event was a credit to CTC and raised the profile for cycling tourism in Cornwall.
