The Awards and Recruitment Committee also gave a Highly Commended Award to Ros Furley for her contribution to cycling in her region.
Ros has been a tireless campaigner for Reading Cycle campaign since Alan Furley, her husband, passed away. She has risen to become the formidable campaigner Alan was, and has gained a reputation far beyond the town where she campaigns. She has fought to get cycling taken seriously by the Reading Borough Council, which has been a Herculean task.
Her success has been measured in small improvements which the council should have been able to do without her input, but who knows just how poor things would be in Reading without the continued and charming efforts of Ros.
She has fitted her campaigning work in, which has not only included attending meetings with the council, but hosting committee meetings at her house and helping to lead Cycle Campaign rides in bike week, with being a very busy grandmother.
She is leaving Reading Cycle Campaign with a strong committee that she has been instrumental in establishing and motivating.
Members of the campaign will sorely miss her presence but as she is going to move to be closer to her family we wish her all our thanks.
