In January 2007, Russell Eden formed a new cycling club with a difference, "Stourbug" (Stourbridge Bicycle Users Group). Fed up with listening to his sister complain she could not lose weight, he formed the idea of challenging ladies to cycle from Stourbridge to Stratford‑upon‑Avon, 45 miles. Following an article in the local paper from which 10 replies were expected, 70 women answered his calling! 50 actually started training with Russell, who gave up every Saturday morning & lots of time at home organising. Many of these ladies had no previous experience.
On 12th May 2007, 33 people rode to Stratford and had the time of their lives! The group was ranged in age from 31‑63 and were split into small groups depending on ability. After the Stratford challenge, the club has continued to grow under Russell's chairmanship and now has many more members, including men! This year Russell is organising the second Stratford challenge and last years members are helping to train the new intake.
