Terry Scott - Nottinghamshire CTC

Terry has been riding with Notts CTC since 1983. For much of that time, he’s held one office or another and, for the last 10 years, he’s been the group’s Secretary. Terry’s contribution to Notts CTC has been huge and he can take a lot of credit for its current state – as an active and well supported

Although he’d been riding with the group for only 2 years, Terry took over as Secretary of the Intermediates Section in 1985 - continuing in that role until 1989 when he became DA Treasurer. By 1991, numbers riding with the “Inters” had fallen and so, once again, Terry agreed to take responsibility for the Section. He successfully returned it to a robust and healthy state so that, in 1996, he was able to persuade one of the newer riders to replace him as Section Secretary. Then, in 2001, Terry volunteered to take over as DA Secretary – a role which he continues to hold today for the renamed Member Group. At the same time, he has acted as Secretary for 2 years of what was then the Juniors Section – following the death of the previous organiser and until he was able to persuade someone else to take on the role – and more recently he has been the instigator of the popular Thursday Rides Group and he remains its de facto secretary.

Terry’s many positive qualities have enabled him to achieve numerous successful outcomes in his different roles for Notts CTC. His tact and sensitivity have been important factors in building up three popular Riding Groups, and he also has that happy knack of quietly persuading others to get more involved. As Group Secretary, he isn’t content to undertake just the traditional administrative duties but many other things only happen because of him. In particular, Terry was the creator of the group’s successful website and he remains its main driver. As part of that activity, he also maintains an authoritative listing of cafes within cycling distance of Nottingham - which is widely referenced by all local cyclists, not just CTC members.

Despite currently difficult family circumstances, Terry continues to make time not just for his official duties but also to support the group’s various Riding Groups – either as participant or often as a ride leader. This breadth of involvement means that he’s well known to a great majority of the group’s active members and is why this award will be so well received by members.
