The reason I wanted to serve on Council was born out of many many years of involvement with Local Groups, first as a teenager finding the freedom of wheels and latterly, the last 30 years on group committees. I felt the need for better communication between National Office and Groups and vice versa. Local Groups to me are a way of life for many members, they represent the CTC and cyclists in the community, being involved with Local Authorities, the media and in many cases Charities and other organisations wishing to promote healthy activity.
This interaction gets people on bikes.
Cycling to me ticks all the boxes, it keeps me fit and active, it is a fantastic social experience and in my case supplies some competitive interest without racing. There is no finer felling than riding down a lane with friends laughing in the sun, or rain at times.
I now appreciate that groups can now support the CTC's common cause more if they are kept in touch with on a personal basis.
