How good are you at talking to cycling sceptics?
Have you ever been at the pub or a party, speaking to someone you’ve just met and somehow the topic of cycling comes up? You profess your love of the mode of transportation/leisure activity/sport/all things bicycle related (please delete as appropriate), and all of a sudden the person you thought might be your new found friend is spouting utter nonsense about the evil of cyclists, bicycles and road safety in general.
You’re flabbergasted by the completely wrong nature of their argument, but they’re completely convinced. You realise that you don’t actually know the information that you need to counter their opinion, and you end up slinking away in frustration, or getting into an argument, or both. But could it have been different? Could you have wowed them with your perceptive responses to their concerns? Could you have changed their mind, and perhaps even found yourself a new cycling buddy ... ?
Take our quiz to learn how well you answer some of the most common challenges to cyclists and cycling that we hear. After you answer each question, we’ll tell you our suggested responses, and give you some tips for countering this type of argument.
