Those of you who do some walking as well as cycling will be aware of the Chilterns Way long distance footpath which came into existence largely as a result of the work of the Chilterns Society and is supported by the Chilterns Conservation Board. (Formal title for the Chilterns AONB management body).
CTC Director Kevin Mayne is a board member at CCB and has negotiated an agreement to work with CTC to produce the Chilterns Cycleway, a 200km cycle touring route around the AONB which fulfils a similar function – it unites all the sundry county and district routes and could provide an impetus for 2-3 day trips, a part of the tourism market at which the Chilterns is under-represented, being primarily a day trip market. It is also potentially divisible into 3 or 4 day loops which cut across the AONB – potentially an Oxfordshire, Bucks, Herts and Beds loop for example.
A draft map is under discussion (1.7MB pdf) file here and comments from CTC members with an interest in Chilterns Cycling are welcomed. In the near future volunteers will be needed to ride some or all of the route and set out directions properly.
