CTC has been promoting cycling at national and local level since 1878 and, after well over a century of campaigning and lobbying, we believe that cycling has never been more relevant than it is today.
CTC's New Vision for Cycling (2MB PDF) is calling for a doubling of cycle use in ten years, which would deliver:
- Economic benefits of around £3.5 billion (England)
- A one third reduction in the risks of cycling
- A saving of 0.6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year
A fully referenced graphics-free version of CTC's New Vision can be found here (54K Word doc).
The work of CTC's dedicated campaigns team focuses on the following themes:

- Designed for Cycling - advocating cycle-friendly planning and infrastructure
- Safe Drivers and Vehicles - influencing traffic law and enforcement, and promoting safe cycling conditions on the roads. We want the risks of cycling to halve within ten years.
- Integrated Transport - campaiging for better provision for combining cycling with public transport use
- Get Cycling! - encouraging promotional campaigns and incentives to get more people cycling
- Countryside Access - working for more and better opportunities for recreational and off-road cycling
CTC also supports the work of the Cyclists' Defence Fund. The CDF was set up by CTC in 2001 and is an independent team of lawyers that fight test cases on behalf of cyclists everywhere.
