CTC Mapping Project

Share your best routes online - and download others – with CTC’s new mapping project. Group in Passau~narrow.jpg

CTC’s route library has cycling information for countries as far afield as Kazakhstan to Korea,  Nepal to Namibia and UK classics like the End to End. It has consistently been in the top three reasons given for joining CTC. The unique strength of this library is that it’s been generated by CTC members who give first hand insights and advice unavailable from conventional maps and tourist boards.

The new routes system enables you to download any CTC route sheet that was on the previous sytem AND IN ADDITION you can add routes of your own in a variety of formats.

CTC Information officers used to act as the conduit for receiving members' routes and itineraries and compiling them into a standard format for publication. WE CAN STILL DO THIS IF YOU WANT but of course, we'd rather you tried adding to the new system yourself.

The best thing about the new system is that you have a choice of three ways of inputting your information, plus you can download routes in a variety of GPS formats too. There is marzipan too, in between the icing and the cake, and this is that you can load up images as well. Go to the site (www.ctc-maps.org.uk) to find out more - it's very useful reading the 'help' notes.

The new system automatically links your route with Cyclists Welcome (so you can source local B&Bs, bike shops and cafés (primarily in the UK only), not to mention UK events and local CTC Groups.

Using place names, your route will automatically generate OS grid references and be displayed as a pictorial map using Google ‘freeware’ maps.

Members downloading routes will be able to tailor the routes by identifying average speed and preferences for distances in KM or miles. Your unique route sheet can then be downloaded in a choice of formats: pdf or word, digital mapping file or GPS.
